How to Turn a Downloaded TikTok Video into a GIF

A GIF doesn't need to be tapped to play — it loops automatically wherever you paste it, which makes it perfect for turning a few seconds of a video into a meme or a reusable sticker. Once you've downloaded the video, converting to GIF doesn't require any specialized software.

Step 1: Download the video first

Option 1: Free online converters on mobile

Searching "video to gif online" turns up plenty of free sites (ezgif, Convertio, and similar). They generally work the same way:

What if the file is still too big to send?

GIF compresses less efficiently than video, so the same few seconds of content often comes out noticeably larger as a GIF than as an MP4. If the file is too big (many chat apps cap attachment size):

Trim it shorter (say, from 8 seconds down to 4)
Lower the frame rate (24fps down to 12–15fps — usually barely noticeable)
Reduce the output width (320–480px instead of the original 1080)

Combining all three usually shrinks the file to a third of its original size or smaller.

FAQ

Does the GIF keep the audio? No — GIF as a format doesn't support sound, only the picture. If you want to keep the audio, it's better to just share the trimmed video clip instead of converting to GIF.
