How to Add Subtitles (or Translated Captions) to a Downloaded TikTok Video

Plenty of TikTok videos don't have captions at all, or have them in a language you don't speak. Whether you want to understand the content or add captions for your own edit, there are a few free ways to do it after downloading — no professional editing skills needed.

Step 1: Download the video first

Option 1: Use a video editor's auto-caption feature

Most free editing apps (CapCut and similar) now have a built-in auto-caption feature. The general flow:

A note on caption placement

If it's just for your own viewing, placement doesn't matter much.
